Ben Reyer is a Vienna-based visual artist, born in the US in 1985. At the core of his practice is a vast personal archive of comics, vintage magazines, and advertising ephemera collected since childhood. From this material, he builds collages, paintings, objects, and clothing that remix brand logos and visual codes of consumer culture — always laced with a sharp dose of humor. He presented a duo show with Rudolf Fitz at the Jan Arnold Gallery and participated in the Living Studio residency at MuseumsQuartier Vienna.
Kranke Zeiten (Sick Times) appropriates the bold red-and-white typography of tabloid news media — think Life Magazine or Germany’s Bild Zeitung. The graphic sits squarely in Barbara Kruger territory: text as image, image as provocation. A remixed logo stripped of its original source, loaded with new meaning in the context of 2020.
