Lukas Ipsmiller is a Vienna-based photographer, filmmaker, and media-transcending artist who was a long-time member of the PERFEKT WORLD collective. His perennial cycle Levitate, created across Cyprus, Greece, Italy, and Austria, explores what he calls "the melancholy of things" — nature, people, and technology framed as solitary icons. In 2015, he presented a solo exhibition at the MuseumsQuartier alongside a photo book release, where one photograph from the series was translated into this screenprint edition.
Feuer Vulkane brings Ipsmiller's photographic sensibility into the language of screen printing — silver and black pigments on heavy paper, stripping the image to its essential contrast. The result recalls Hiroshi Sugimoto's meditations on light and surface, where a photograph becomes something closer to an abstract object than a document. Two-color screenprint on Munken Pure paper.
