Mr. Penfold is a Bristol-based graffiti and mural artist known for bold, precise lines and saturated color fields - a visual language rooted in comic aesthetics, progressively abstracted into floating graphic landscapes. In late 2015, we invited him to Vienna as Q21 Artist-in-Residence at the MuseumsQuartier, where he presented "Memory Bank" - a solo exhibition at our gallery space in the MQ.

Memory Bank captures Penfold's psychogeographic process: each morning during his Vienna residency, he walked the city collecting visual fragments - a pack of playing cards, the silhouette of a lamp post, a shopfront detail. Like a Situationist dérive filtered through pop-graphic sensibility, these observations became the raw material for this four-color screenprint. The title is literal: a bank of images, deposited daily and withdrawn as bold chromatic compositions.
