Peter Tauber is a Budapest-born, Vienna-based artist who studied under Daniel Richter at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. His practice sits at the intersection of comics and abstract painting — densely layered compositions that evoke characters like Mickey Mouse, Superman, or Spider-Man through fragments of color, motion lines, and iconic visual cues, without ever fully depicting them. “Comics present me with the ideal raw material for dealing with topics like fear, confusion, loss of identity and hero cults,” he says. “As I dissolve these worlds, something new emerges.” He presented a solo exhibition at our Jan Arnold Gallery in 2021.

Spiderman channels Marvel’s iconic wall-crawler into Tauber’s language of chromatic abstraction. Where Steve Ditko’s 1962 original built Spider-Man from clean line work and acrobatic poses, Tauber dissolves the figure into gestural webs of color — the hero evoked rather than drawn. Four-color screen print on Pergraphica paper.
