Wisetwo is the artist name of Bhupendra Jethwa, a Kenyan artist of Indian descent based in Nairobi. For over thirteen years, his practice has centered on one motif: the mask — drawn from ancient civilizations, shamanic rituals, and endangered tribal cultures. “Behind every mask, there is a true face,” he says. His large-scale murals can be found at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT, the United Nations in Zurich, and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. In 2021, he painted the mural “Broken” at Weltmuseum Wien for the Calle Libre festival.
Black Mask — printed in two colors on black recycling paper — brings Wisetwo’s signature motif into a graphic, totemic form. Created during his residency at AG18 Gallery in Vienna, this edition of 12 distills the spiritual weight of his large-scale murals into an intimate 40×50cm screen print.
